The war in Ukraine, which has been in operation for more than a year now, has affected the population of this country at all levels, invaded by Russia and devastated by the bombardments of the enemy army.
One of those areas is sport and this Sunday, the European Athletics Indoor Championshipswhich is held in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, has been the scene of an emotional scene related to the conflict.
In the high jump competition, the gold was taken by the Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh. Of the same nationality she is the bronze medalist, Kateryna Tabashnykthat when he has secured the metal, he has not been able to suppress his tears.

The cameras recorded the moment in which Tabashnyk hugged a teammate and she burst into tears, seized with emotion. And it is that this 28-year-old athlete lost her mother in the conflict.
Specifically, it was on August 18, when the Russian offensive rained down fire on the city of Kharkov, the second largest in the country and where Tabashnyk is from. The athlete’s mother died in a Russian bombing.
The podium was completed by the Dutch Britt Weermann. The European indoor athletics championship started last Thursday and ends this Sunday. Ukraine has three medals.
