Juan Carlos Unzue He is known for being one of the goalkeepers and, later, goalkeeping coach and assistant coach of FC Barcelona. He also coached Numancia and Girona in the Second Division, while he was manager of Celta de Vigo in the First Division.
During his time as goalkeeper he played for several teams, also in the First Division. After spending two seasons as a goalkeeper at Osasuna, he signed as substitute goalkeeper for Zubizarreta at FC Barcelona, to later end his career at Sevilla, where he played more than 200 games.
His sporting end came in 2020, when he decided to stay away from soccer fields, since he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), at which time he became into an activist, focused on investigating more about this disease.
Research and fundraising against Commonwealth
An example of this was the kick-off he carried out in a charity match against ELA, which faced FC Barcelona and Manchester City at the Camp Nou, and where he asked that “the ELA law is unblocked and processed now”.
Likewise, it is present in many other events held for the Fundraising for the fight against ELAsuch as a solidarity golf tournament attended by Pep Morata, Joan Laporta or Alex Corretja, among others.
Currently, he is still linked to the world of sports, since he has become one of the football commentators on the DAZN platforma position that he has held since last year 2022.
