The loss of Novak Djokovic in Indian Wells has given a new opportunity to the ‘wonder boy’ of Spanish tennis, Carlos Alcaraz. The Murcian will be able to recover the number one in the world if he is able to win the title in the California desert.
An achievement that eluded him last season after losing to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the tournament 4-6. 6-4 and 3-6. which makes the current number two in the world only defends 360 points and can get 640 more to rise to the top of the ATP ranking. Today, Alcaraz continues with 6,780 points and is 380 behind Djokovic. The Serbian lost to Medvedev 6-4, 6-4 in the ‘semis’ in Dubai, and could only get 180 points in the Arab tournament.

However, after being absent from the last tournament in Acapulco due to a hamstring problem in his right leg, Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil has lost ground in the qualifying table with respect to his biggest rivals in the Top 10. Even so, if the physical state does not say otherwise, the one from Murcia will be present in Indian Wells and Miamiin the latter he is the current champion of the tournament, to be able to distance himself again in the qualifying table.
In the hypothetical case of going further and winning both tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, Carlos would reach 7,420 points, compared to Novak Djokovic’s 7,160. On the other hand, Rafael Nadalwho is still recovering from the injury he suffered at the Australian Open, has fallen to ninth place in the world ranking and plans, if his body allows it, to back for the clay court tour on the slopes of Monte Carlo.
